A Cumulative Index to the Presbyterian Guardian

This is the digital version of James T. Dennison, Jr.’s A Cumulative Index to the Presbyterian Guardian, 1935-1979 (1985).

This index to the magazine launched by J. Gresham Machen provides access to the early history of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC). We are making this tool available free of charge at its website in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the OPC (1936-2011).

Dennison’s Index was originally compiled in conjunction with the 50th anniversary celebration of the OPC in 1986. At that time, his brother, the late Rev. Charles G. Dennison (to whom the Index was dedicated) served as denominational Historian of the OPC and organizer of the printed record for that semi-centennial observance (The Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1936-1986; Pressing Towards the Mark: Essays Commemorating Fifty Years of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church; R. K. Churchill, Lest We Forget; and the OPC Video). To assist his brother in locating historical and other material on early OP congregations, Jim created the Index to the Guardian.

The nearly exhaustive alphabetical Index lists authors of articles, title of the article, persons, subjects, Scripture texts, ministers, missionaries, churches, locations and even pictures. For those interested in the discussions germane to the OPC and other related Reformed denominations for this period, the pages of the Guardian are an invaluable resource. Now those pages are even more accessible to the researcher or interested reader. Used in combination with the digital version of the run of The Presbyterian Guardian (available at http://www.opc.org/guardian.html), the Index will direct the reader to the particular issue, date and page.

Search the Index using any term, name, Scripture text, etc. Or simply page through its entries for items of interest. In order to read the article, use the citation in combination with the digitalized Guardian at the OPC website.
