Vos Project
In 1975, James T. Dennison, Jr., discovered the handwritten
notebook of Geerhardus Vos at the Heritage Hall Archive of Calvin Theological
Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. With the cooperation of Dr. Vos' daughter,
Marianne Radius, and son, Dr. J. G. Vos, a copy of Professor Vos' Old
Testament Eschatology manuscript was recovered. Although this manuscript
was a mere fragment of a very large work, it was suggestive of Vos' interaction
with the German critical schools.
The Board of Kerux launched a long-term campaign to publish
all the previously unpublished Vos manuscript material. In 1995, the sermonic
corpus from the handwritten notebook as well as published sermons released
during Vos' lifetime, were gathered into one volume by the Banner of Truth
Trust, Edinburgh, Scotland (and Carlisle, Pennsylvania). Reprising the
title chosen by Vos himself in 1922 for a volume of his sermons, "Grace
and Glory" contains sixteen sermons. These messages have been an immense
blessing in the devotional life of God's people.
The Board has been raising funds outside of its general
operating budget to publish the Old Testament Eschatology manuscript.
In addition, numerous letters by Vos to Abraham Kuyper, Herman Bavinck
and B. B. Warfield have been recovered, translated, edited and annotated.
The Board of Kerux hopes to combine the eschatology manuscript and the
letters in a volume to be released in a few years. A separate investment
fund for the Vos project has been established to receive the tax-deductible
gifts of those interested in furthering this project.
